SERP Intent Decoder Chrome Extension · Last updated: May 2026
Overview
SERP Intent Decoder ("the Extension") is a free Chrome Extension that analyses Google search results to show search intent, word count, content gaps and competitor FAQs directly on the SERP. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and what is not collected.
Data We Do NOT Collect
The Extension does not collect, store, transmit or share any personally identifiable information. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address or any personal details
- We do not track your browsing history or search queries
- We do not store your search keywords on any server
- We do not use cookies or any tracking technologies
- We do not sell or transfer any data to third parties
Data Accessed Locally
The Extension reads the following data locally on your device only:
- Google search result titles, URLs and snippets — read from the Google search page you are viewing, used only to perform intent analysis
- Landing page content — when crawling competitor pages for word count and FAQ extraction, the Extension opens pages in background tabs and reads their text content locally. This data is not transmitted anywhere except to the AI service for analysis.
- Extension settings — your toggle preferences (auto-analyze, show panel, show badges) are stored locally in Chrome storage on your device only
- Analysis cache — SERP analysis results are cached locally on your device for 30 minutes to avoid repeat API calls for the same keyword. This cache is never transmitted externally.
Third-Party AI Service
To generate intent analysis, content gaps and recommended angles, the Extension sends the following data to OpenRouter (a third-party AI API service):
- The Google search query text
- The titles, URLs and short snippets of ranking pages visible on the SERP
No personal user data is included in these requests. OpenRouter's privacy policy is available at openrouter.ai/privacy.
Permissions Used
- activeTab — to read the Google search results page currently open in your browser
- scripting — to inject intent badges and the analysis panel into the Google search page, and to extract word count and FAQ data from competitor pages
- storage — to save your settings and cache analysis results locally on your device
- Host permissions (google.com, google.co.in, all_urls) — to analyse Google search pages and load competitor landing pages for word count extraction
Data Retention
All data processed by the Extension exists only in your browser's local memory and local storage. Analysis cache is automatically cleared after 30 minutes. You can manually clear all cached data at any time via the Extension popup → Clear cache.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is intended for SEO professionals and digital marketers. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children.
